What is a culture of hope? Hope, for our salvation and that of others, begins when mercy and justice are practiced. We see this in Abraham’s negotiations with God for the salvation of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham’s consultation with God “brings a new idea of justice into play:…a divine justice that seeks goodness and creates it through forgiveness that transforms the sinner, converts and saves him.” (Benedict XVI) What does this mean for issues such as immigration and capital punishment?
Cajun by birth, Dr. Jennifer E. Miller completed pontifical degrees in theology at the Pontifical Universities of the Angelicum and the Gregorian, obtaining her doctorate with a thesis in Catholic social doctrine at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in 2013. Former coordinator of studies at the Markets, Culture and Ethics Research Centre, Dr. Miller is a professor of moral theology at the Notre Dame Seminary. She focuses on Catholic feminism and Catholic Social Doctrine.
