SUMMARY:When Hope Doesn't Feel Good - Mikki Sciba
DESCRIPTION:When Hope Doesn’t Feel Good\nPeople can be anxious\, depressed\, and overwhelmed\, especially our young people. Many are looking to escape the harsh reality of our world and our own problems by finding earthly distractions instead of pursuing true hope . In this will we discover our happiness in God and can assist those in our care to do the same. \nMikki Sciba graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison\, KS in 2005 with a B.A in Religious Studies\, Philosophy\, and Youth Ministry.  For the past ten years she has worked as a high school theology teacher.  She currently teaches  9th grade Theology and act as campus minister in Beaumont\, TX where she lives with her husband and three children. \nMEETING LOCATION: ROOM 5\n

SUMMARY:Generation A: Making Things Matter to the “Whatever” Teen - Katie Prejean McGrady
DESCRIPTION:Generation A: Making Things Matter to the “Whatever” Teen\nThe pervasive attitude among many teens is: I don’t care. How we operate in our classrooms\, with our youth groups\, in our parish communities\, and even among our families must be accessible and available to Generation A. \nKatie Prejean McGrady is a passionate teacher\, youth minister\, author\, and speaker who travels across the country using her unique style of “theological comedy” with audiences ranging in size from 10 to 10\,000. SUMMARY:Saints for the World - Dr. Tom Neal
DESCRIPTION:Saints for the World: Discovering Anew the Secular Mission of the Laity\nThe Second Vatican Council offers the Church a radical vision of lay holiness rooted in the “secular genius” that is proper and peculiar to the lay faithful. While so much worthy emphasis has been placed on formation for priesthood\, religious life and various forms of lay ecclesial ministry\, there has been relatively little investment in forming the laity for their God-given baptismal mission to transform culture and society and become “secular saints.” I will share this vision with application. \nDr. Tom Neal  presently serves as Academic Dean and Professor of Spiritual Theology at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans\, Louisiana. He has worked for twenty years in adult faith formation as a DRE\, an Adult Faith Formation Director as well as serving as the director of a catechetical institute. He has led dozens of retreats\, given hundreds of talks and have taught theology for 15 years. SUMMARY:Forming Families of Faith and Hope: Catholic Social Teaching and the Domestic Church
DESCRIPTION:Forming Families of Faith and Hope: Catholic Social Teaching and the Domestic Church\nSaint John Paul II wrote that it was within “the family” that people receive their “first formative ideas about truth and goodness and [learn] what it means to love and to be loved\, and thus what it actually means to be a person.”   It is within the family that Catholics learn to bring hope to a hurting world. This workshop will explore the critical role Catholic social teaching can play in strengthening the domestic church. \nDr. Kristin Witte has taught in a Catholic elementary school\, worked as a college campus minister\, parish youth minister\, and for the Archdiocese of Baltimore as the coordinator of pastoral care and social justice. Having earned three master’s degrees\, Kristin completed her Doctorate in Ministry with an emphasis in Pastoral Counseling from the Catholic University of America. Hope brings about a transformation of our lives and a daily active commitment to what leads us to true happiness\, which is union with God.  This presentation will explore Pope Benedict’s Spe Salvi and the “settings” for learning and practicing this hope. \nMikki Sciba graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison\, KS in 2005 with a B.A in Religious Studies\, Philosophy\, and Youth Ministry. SUMMARY:Engaging Parents in Sacramental Catechesis Part 2 - Shelly Bole
DESCRIPTION:Engaging Parents in Sacramental Catechesis Part  2\nWe say it time and again\, “How do we involve parents and families in catechesis?” Sacramental formation is a unique doorway to engage and involve families in the faith formation of their children. The question is how to get them through the doorway! Part 2 of this series will focus on sacramental retreats for parents and child/teen. \nShelly Bole grew up in the Central Plains of Oklahoma and Kansas. Her first ministry career was in Youth and Young Adult Ministry. After getting tired of sitting on the floor and not able to rebound from lock-ins\, Shelly moved to playing with adults in Catechist Formation. Her degrees are from Newman University with a BS in Pastoral Ministry and a MTS in theology. Shelly has worked as the Director of Catechesis for the Diocese of Shreveport for the past five years. \nMEETING LOCATION: HALL A

SUMMARY:The Power of Unfounded Hope: A True Story - Fr. Sidney Speaks

However\, the goal of the presentation is to not only recount this powerful journey and epic battle of a soul…but to spark through the Spirit\, a sense of one’s own journey of struggle and effort to discover God’s beautiful “unfounded hope”. \nSidney Speaks is a native of Baltimore\, and oldest of nine\, from the beautiful union of the late Sidney Oscar and Lillie Speaks. At the age of 16\, Sidney felt the call of priesthood. Two years later\, he entered the Josephite Fathers formation program in New Orleans\, LA. After graduating from Xavier University in 1994\, he went to Washington\, DC\, and received the Master of Divinity degree in 1999 from Dominican House of Studies. He was ordained a Josephite priest on Dec. 4\, 1999. \nMEETING LOCATION: LAKEVIEW ROOM

SUMMARY:Missionary Catechists: Sharing Hopeful Gifts for Ministry - Kathleen Hendricks
DESCRIPTION:Missionary Catechists: Sharing Hopeful Gifts for Ministry\nCatechists might not consider their classrooms missionary territory but so it is. The role and responsibility of the catechist to share the Good News with others requires the same gifts of the Holy Spirit that nudged the early disciples out of the upper room and into the world as they began their mission of evangelization. Join us as we consider how to put two of these gifts – knowledge and wisdom – to good use in our catechetical efforts and to shine hope into the lives of those we catechize. \nKathy Hendricks is the National Catechetical Consultant for William H. Sadlier and a contributing writer for their materials\, including a weekly blog. Kathy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education\, a Master’s degree in Adult Christian Community Development\, and certification as a spiritual director. SUMMARY:Hope for a Confused Culture - Adam Fuselier
DESCRIPTION:Hope for a Confused Culture\nThis presentation would focus on the need to lead teens to an understanding that their identity is based only in relationship with God. In a culture that continues to encourage teens to choose their own identity\, it is important that we provide clarity. Theology of the Body shows us that\, rather than being defined by what we do\, who we are as men and women has already been decided by our loving God and he has inscribed the call to love within our bodies. \nAdam Fuselier is the Program Director for Dumb Ox Ministries\, a Catholic non-profit organization that brings St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body to thousands each year in creative and dynamic ways. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Ave Maria University in 2011 and is currently completing his Master’s degree in Theology at the Augustine Institute. Adam has journeyed with many young men as they have sought to integrate St. John Paul II’s teachings into their personal lives. \nSponsored by Dumb Ox Ministries \nMEETING LOCATION: ROOM 6

SUMMARY:Forming Young People for Holiness and Hope - Dr. Leonard DeLorenzo
DESCRIPTION:Forming Young People for Holiness and Hope\nThe Culture of Ambitious Multitaskers and the Challenge to Forming Young People for Holiness “The more you can do\, the better.” This maxim of our modern lives is one into which we form and educate our young people. But does our prizing of ambitious multitaskers actually work against the hope of growing in holiness? By broadly analyzing college admissions cultures\, digital media cultures\, resume cultures and the like\, we will begin to reimagine how a change in priorities and practices can stop hindering and start promoting the goals of Christian formation. \nLeonard J. DeLorenzo\, PhD\, teaches theology at the University of Notre Dame\, where he works in the McGrath Institute for Church Life. He is the author of Witness: Learning to Tell the Stories of Grace that Illumine Our Lives (Ave Maria Press\, 2016)\, Work of Love: A Theological Reconstruction of the Communion of Saints (Notre Dame Press\, 2017)\, and the forthcoming What Matters Most: Empowering Young People for Life’s Big Decisions (Ave Maria Press\, 2018). His expertise ranges from theology and spirituality\, to philosophy and ethics\, and to pedagogical strategies and pastoral practice. DeLorenzo served for 13 years as director of Notre Dame Vision\, where he was responsible for forming college students as leaders in ministry and designing faith formation conferences for teenagers. He lives in South Bend\, Indiana\, with his wife\, Lisa\, and their five children. \nSponsored by Ave Maria Press \nMEETING LOCATION: ROOM 4

SUMMARY:Hope for the World - Dr. Joseph White
DESCRIPTION:Hope for the World: Helping Kids and Teens Embrace the Fullness of Catholic Social Teaching\nCatholic Social Teaching transcends the boundaries of politics and secular ideologies. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Graduate Certificate in Theology from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Dr. White is the author of 10 books and numerous articles on catechesis and ministry. He is a frequent guest on Catholic radio and television. Dr. White maintains a blog for catechists at www.SharingCatholicFaith.com. \nSponsored by Our Sunday Visitor \nMEETING LOCATION: ROOM 2
