SUMMARY:Saturday Keynote | Dr. Jo Ann Paradise
DESCRIPTION:That They May Be One\nWe live in such a divided world. We live in a divided Church. Often our own families are divided.  And yet we hear the words of Jesus\, “I pray… so that they may all be one\, as you\, Father\, are in me and I in you\, that they also may be in us.” It seems to be a broken human tendency to blame others for the division. How seriously do we hear the call of Jesus to die to self—to die to the need to blame? We will explore the spiritual journey that seeks to root out the source of our division. This journey demands a purity of heart that lets go of blame\, offers and seeks forgiveness and desires reconciliation.  This path to the fullness of life is not just for our own sake but that the world may know and believe that in Christ alone we are one. \nDr. Jo Ann Paradise is the National Consultant for Our Sunday Visitor Publishing and Program Editor for Encounter With Christ\, sacrament preparation program. She served as a catechetical leader in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for 32 years\, a teacher at the grade school and high school levels in Catholic schools as well as an adjunct faculty member of several universities.  Jo Ann holds a BS in Education from Carlow University\, an MA in Theology from Duquesne University\, and a D.Min in Spirituality from the Graduate Theological Foundation. \nThank you to Our Sunday Visitor for their sponsorship of Dr. Jo Ann Paradise as a Keynote Speaker at the 2019 Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference.

SUMMARY:Friday Keynote | Jason Angelette
DESCRIPTION:First We Come\, Then We Go!: Fostering Unity in a Divided World\nUnity is not some lofty ideal but rather something that is real regardless of any hurt\, difference\, or conflict that seems to divide us.  Jesus prayed multiple times that we may all be one as He is one with the Father (cf. John 17:11\, 21). This unity\, even amongst the greatest challenges\, is first brought about through union with God\, and then union with others. That is why in Mark’s Gospel Jesus’ first words are to “Come” (Mark 16:15). Through God’s grace let us dive deeper in this invitation to come to our Lord\, to learn from Him\, abide in Him\, so that we can GO! out into the world and foster true unity! \n  \nJason Angelette is Co-Director for the Faith & Marriage Ministry of the Willwoods Community\, along with his wife Elise. \nJason received a Masters in Theological Studies from the Pope John Paul II Institute on Studies of Marriage and Family at Catholic University in Washington\, D.C.. His ministry experience includes high school campus ministry\, teaching theology at the high school and college level\, working on and speaking at various retreats and events nationwide\, as well as co-host of a weekly television program on WLAE entitled “Issues & Faith” for 8 years. \n  \nThank you to the Wildwoods Community for their sponsorship of Jason Angelette as a Keynote Speaker at the 2019 Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference.

SUMMARY:William H. Sadlier\, Inc. Leadership Thursday
DESCRIPTION:The complex demands on diocesan\, parish and Catholic school leaders requires flexible and innovative ways to serve parishioners\, students and families.  This begins with transformation at a personal level and radiates outward through the development of relationships and processes that invite others to a similar transformation.  This special day for ministerial leaders will examine three stages of spiritual transformation – awakening\, purification\, and generativity – essential to opening ourselves further to God’s grace and guidance.  Through lively interaction\, personal reflection\, and shared experiences\, leaders will leave with a better appreciation for their own call to transformation as well as practical ideas to bring to their ministry. \nOur presenters\, Kathy Hendricks and Steve Botsford\, will collaborate in offering an interactive and dynamic afternoon that will include personal spirituality and transformation as well as application to their ministries. \n  \nKathy Hendricks is the National Catechetical Consultant for William H. Sadlier and a contributing writer for their programs. Kathy offers presentations across the country on catechesis\, spirituality\, and family and is the author of several books\, including Seeking Spiritual Balance in Off-Kilter Times. Kathy holds a Master’s degree in Adult Christian Community Development and certification as a spiritual director. \nSteve Botsford is a National Religion Consultant for Sadlier Publishing. He is a convert to the Catholic faith and earned a Master of Religious Education degree from Loyola University\, New Orleans. He also holds a Church Management certificate from Villanova University. Steve is a master catechist in the Archdiocese of Atlanta and has served over 10 years in parish ministry as a youth minister and DRE. \n  \nLunch is included as part of the schedule. \n  \nThank you to William H. Sadlier\, Inc.  for their sponsorship of Leadership Thursday for the 2019 Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference.

SUMMARY:World Library Publications Liturgy/Music Pre-Conference Event
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference will start inspiring\, educating\, and forming religious education and faith formation leaders before its traditional Leadership Thursday afternoon start with a special “pre-conference” event\,  sponsored by World Library Publications\, that features talks and performances by four of the top Catholic music composers in the country. \nFollowing Mass at 9:00 AM on Thursday\, January 10th\, New Orleans-native Lorraine Hess\, Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference musical director and composer of “One Lord\, One Faith\,” the Conference theme song\, will be joined by John Angotti\, Craig Colson\, and James Wahl to share some of their work and provide suggestions and best practices for catechetical leaders and liturgical ministers. \nClick on an artist’s name to learn more about their biography!\nThanks to the enormous generosity of World Library Publications\, this pre-conference event is free of charge for Conference participants.\n  \n \n\n\nLorraine Hess is a Catholic singer\, songwriter\, music minister\, and recording artist born and raised in New Orleans. As mentioned above\, Lorraine is the Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference music director and the composer of the conference theme song. She grew up in a family of jazz and Cajun musicians\, and her writing is strongly influenced by her South Louisiana heritage. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University\, and holds a Master of Pastoral Studies degree from Loyola Institute for Ministry at Loyola University New Orleans. She has served the Church in music since age 16\, and is currently the Music Ministry Director at Divine Mercy Parish and a cantor and choir director of the Youth Mass at St. Catherine of Siena\, both in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Lorraine and her husband\, Rob\, have been married since 1990\, and are recipients of the St. Louis Medallion Award for service to the Archdiocese of New Orleans. They are proud parents of four sons\, her greatest vocation. \nLorraine has released five solo albums of original liturgical and sacred music: We Shall Be Healed (2008); Child of God (2010); Cradle in Bethlehem (2012)\, produced by Ed Bolduc; and As I Pray (2015) and Glorify Him (2018)\, both produced by World Library Publications. Her music can also be found in WLP’s CD compilations More Voices as One I\, II\, and III. \n\n\nJohn Angotti is a full time music missionary. He travels throughout many parts of the world providing inspirational music and witness to all ages through concerts\, workshops\, retreats\, missions\, conferences\, and liturgies. John is originally from Clarksburg\, West Virginia\, and now resides in Memphis\, Tennessee with his wife and two children. He is a graduate of West Virginia University and the U.S. Military School of Music\, where he was a member of the U.S. Navy Band as lead vocalist. John received his Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago in 2013. \nJohn’s message is clear: There is hope\, healing\, and truth with the love of God. His music expresses hope and love for those longing for a deeper relationship with God. “My passion is to not only provide music for worship\, but music that sings of the true witness of my experience of Christ in my life\, that leads me to the table in faith. I have found that people relate through both music and testimony. All of us have a cross\, even though we may try to hide it. But there is no hiding place from God\, who is with us all the time.”\n \n\n \nCraig Colson has been a music and liturgy director in the Phoenix area since 1993. He provides music suggestions and writes articles for the Life Teen liturgy planning guides. Skilled in piano\, guitar\, voice\, percussion and drums\, he has served in the Diocese of Phoenix at many diocesan events. \nCraig is the Music & Liturgy Director at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Phoenix\, Arizona and ministers along with his wife\, Kristen. They have been featured as speakers on programs for Life Teen music conferences and National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) conventions. Craig’s latest contemporary liturgical album published with WLP is I Am the Way. He has also recorded a contemporary psalm collection CD\, Fill Us with Your Love (Spirit and Song) as well as his first album\, A Better Place\, which is available on iTunes. \nMarried since 1998\, Craig\, Kristen and their two children\, live in Glendale\, Arizona. \n\n\nJames Wahl was first inspired to write Catholic children’s music when his two oldest children were in preschool. His desire to pass on the faith to his sons in a lively\, energetic way led to the composition of his first original song\, “Jonah”\, and fifteen years later\, he is now recording and presenting as well. James currently serves as Director of Music at the Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi\, in Raleigh\, NC\, where he resides with his wife\, Tami\, and four boys. Before moving to the east coast\, he ministered at parishes in California and Arizona\, including the Cathedral of Phoenix. When he is not studying to complete his Master’s of Liturgical Music Composition from St. John’s University in Minnesota\, James can be found hiking\, enjoying the Carolina coastline\, and watching Lakers games.

SUMMARY:When Hope Doesn't Feel Good - Mikki Sciba
DESCRIPTION:When Hope Doesn’t Feel Good\nPeople can be anxious\, depressed\, and overwhelmed\, especially our young people. Many are looking to escape the harsh reality of our world and our own problems by finding earthly distractions instead of pursuing true hope . Genuine hope requires that we abandon these “false” worldly hopes and entrust everything to our Father without settling for anyone or anything less. In this will we discover our happiness in God and can assist those in our care to do the same. \nMikki Sciba graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison\, KS in 2005 with a B.A in Religious Studies\, Philosophy\, and Youth Ministry.  For the past ten years she has worked as a high school theology teacher.  She currently teaches  9th grade Theology and act as campus minister in Beaumont\, TX where she lives with her husband and three children. \nMEETING LOCATION: ROOM 5\n

SUMMARY:Generation A: Making Things Matter to the “Whatever” Teen - Katie Prejean McGrady
DESCRIPTION:Generation A: Making Things Matter to the “Whatever” Teen\nThe pervasive attitude among many teens is: I don’t care. We should see “Generation A” not as apathetic\, lazy\, or useless\, but as vibrant souls in need of a challenge. We are charged with engaging with and inspiring them to meet the Lord\, who can transform their hearts. How we operate in our classrooms\, with our youth groups\, in our parish communities\, and even among our families must be accessible and available to Generation A. \nKatie Prejean McGrady is a passionate teacher\, youth minister\, author\, and speaker who travels across the country using her unique style of “theological comedy” with audiences ranging in size from 10 to 10\,000. McGrady is the freshman theology teacher and assistant campus minister at St. Louis Catholic High School in Lake Charles\, Louisiana. SUMMARY:Saints for the World - Dr. Tom Neal
DESCRIPTION:Saints for the World: Discovering Anew the Secular Mission of the Laity\nThe Second Vatican Council offers the Church a radical vision of lay holiness rooted in the “secular genius” that is proper and peculiar to the lay faithful. While so much worthy emphasis has been placed on formation for priesthood\, religious life and various forms of lay ecclesial ministry\, there has been relatively little investment in forming the laity for their God-given baptismal mission to transform culture and society and become “secular saints.” I will share this vision with application. \nDr. Tom Neal  presently serves as Academic Dean and Professor of Spiritual Theology at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans\, Louisiana. He has worked for twenty years in adult faith formation as a DRE\, an Adult Faith Formation Director as well as serving as the director of a catechetical institute. He has led dozens of retreats\, given hundreds of talks and have taught theology for 15 years. He received a Masters in Systematic Theology from Mount St Mary U. and a PhD in Religion from Florida State U. \nSponsored by Notre Dame Seminary’s Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry \nMEETING LOCATION: LAKEVIEW ROOM

SUMMARY:The Power of Unfounded Hope: A True Story - Fr. Sidney Speaks
DESCRIPTION:The Power of Unfounded Hope: A True Story\nThis workshop/talk is a concerted effort to invite the listener into the life and world of someone who dramatically fought the downward pull of hopelessness with the manifested presence of divine grace\, which gave birth to a newfound hope. However\, the goal of the presentation is to not only recount this powerful journey and epic battle of a soul…but to spark through the Spirit\, a sense of one’s own journey of struggle and effort to discover God’s beautiful “unfounded hope”. \nSidney Speaks is a native of Baltimore\, and oldest of nine\, from the beautiful union of the late Sidney Oscar and Lillie Speaks. At the age of 16\, Sidney felt the call of priesthood. Two years later\, he entered the Josephite Fathers formation program in New Orleans\, LA. After graduating from Xavier University in 1994\, he went to Washington\, DC\, and received the Master of Divinity degree in 1999 from Dominican House of Studies. He was ordained a Josephite priest on Dec. 4\, 1999. \nMEETING LOCATION: LAKEVIEW ROOM
