SUMMARY:Becoming a Prophet of Hope - Jason Romero
DESCRIPTION:Becoming a Prophet of Hope\nIn the Old Testament\, the prophets called for social change and a return to the Lord.  In our noisy culture\, there are many distractions leading people away from the faith.  Technology and social media are just some of the things that people focus on more than God.  Come and see how we can be modern day prophets of hope! \nJason is the Director of Christian Formation for Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.  He graduated from LSU with a B.A. in Anthropology and Notre Dame Seminary with an M.A. in Theological Studies.  He has previously taught Theology at Our Lady of the Lake College.”  Jason has spoken and led retreats throughout the South and loves speaking about our Lord in the Eucharist.   He and his wife Lauren have 5 rambunctious children who love to live life to the fullest. SUMMARY:A Culture of Hope: The Social Expression of Justice as Mercy - Dr. Jennifer E. Miller
DESCRIPTION:A Culture of Hope: The Social Expression of Justice as Mercy\nWhat is a culture of hope? Hope\, for our salvation and that of others\, begins when mercy and justice are practiced. We see this in Abraham’s negotiations with God for the salvation of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham’s consultation with God “brings a new idea of justice into play:…a divine justice that seeks goodness and creates it through forgiveness that transforms the sinner\, converts and saves him.” (Benedict XVI) What does this mean for issues such as immigration and capital punishment? \nCajun by birth\, Dr. Jennifer E. Miller completed pontifical degrees in theology at the Pontifical Universities of the Angelicum and the Gregorian\, obtaining her doctorate with a thesis in Catholic social doctrine at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in 2013. Former coordinator of studies at the Markets\, Culture and Ethics Research Centre\, Dr. Miller is a professor of moral theology at the Notre Dame Seminary. She focuses on Catholic feminism and Catholic Social Doctrine. \nMEETING LOCATION: ROOM 5

SUMMARY:Different Gifts\, Same Spirit: Creating an Hope-filled Inclusive Learning Community - Carrie Freyer
DESCRIPTION:Different Gifts\, Same Spirit: Creating an Hope-filled Inclusive Learning Community\nWe all know how important it is to help people with special needs enter full participation in the Catholic faith—learning about their faith\, developing their own relationship with God\, participating in worship and liturgy\, parish ministry\, and Catholic social justice initiatives\, but most of us are a bit unsure of how to make that happen.  In this workshop\, we’ll discuss how to recognize and remove barriers to participation for individuals with intellectual\, physical\, emotional\, and sensory differences.  We will specifically explore how to help children and youth welcome all into their catechetical environments. Each participant will receive a copy of Different Gifts\, Same Spirit\, a guide to creating an inclusive learning community. Additional resources and organizations providing help in inclusion will be shared as well. \nCarrie Freyer is the Sales & Marketing Curricula Specialist for Loyola Press. She has worked at Loyola for fourteen years marketing elementary curriculum products as well as helping serve parishes and schools in a variety of roles. Prior to joining Loyola\, Carrie worked in ministry as a Catholic school teacher and catechist for over ten years. Carrie resides in Chicago with her family. \nSponsored by Loyola Press \nMEETING LOCATION: LAKEVIEW ROOM

DESCRIPTION:Young People\, the Faith\, and Vocational Discernment\nWe will assess the formative influences on young people today\, the end to which the Church’s evangelization and formation efforts are ordered\, and the possibilities for renewing the Church’s mission in forming young people for vocational discernment. DeLorenzo\, PhD\, teaches theology at the University of Notre Dame\, where he works in the McGrath Institute for Church Life. He is the author of Witness: Learning to Tell the Stories of Grace that Illumine Our Lives (Ave Maria Press\, 2016)\, Work of Love: A Theological Reconstruction of the Communion of Saints (Notre Dame Press\, 2017)\, and the forthcoming What Matters Most: Empowering Young People for Life’s Big Decisions (Ave Maria Press\, 2018). His expertise ranges from theology and spirituality\, to philosophy and ethics\, and to pedagogical strategies and pastoral practice. SUMMARY:Families of Hope - Katie Almon
DESCRIPTION:Families of Hope: Building Partnerships between Catholic Schools and the Home\nAs Pope St. John Paul II shares in Familiaris Consortio\, the Church observes that the institution of the family acts as a sacramental “cradle” for the fostering the faith among generations. The need for reaching out to families\, therefore\, is crucial to the success of the work of evangelization in the Church. The session would be focused on highlighting “best” practices used by Catholic schools around the country to connect with and form Catholic parents in faith and values. \nKatie Almon has been working in Catholic education for the past 8 years as both a high school Theology teacher and Campus Minister. She has her Masters of Arts in Theological Studies from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. \nMEETING LOCATION: ROOM 1

SUMMARY:Leading Children to Pray - John Collins
DESCRIPTION:Leading Children to Pray:  Catechist as Pray-er and Model of Hope for the Journey\nIt’s easy to teach children prayers…the words and phrases that we say.  But how do we pray with children?  Is it just a routine?  Is there a classroom environment that sends a message that prayer is important?  Are prayer experiences prayer-ful?  Children donÂ’t develop a prayer life from a book\, but from the example of those adultsÂ…parents and catechistsÂ…who guide them in their faith journey.  This session will provide nourishment for catechists in nurturing the prayer life of their students. \nJohn is a retired elementary school principal\, former Director of Curriculum\, and elementary school teacher. He is also a former DRE and catechist. John worked with Sadlier in the northeast for many years\, and now he is a full-time National Religion Consultant. He is a keynote speaker and presenter at both national and regional congresses. His presentations always bring the practical and realistic to catechesis with his experience as both a professional educator and catechetical leader. \nSponsored by William H. SUMMARY:Hope in Change - Kathleen Hendricks
DESCRIPTION:Hope in Change\nChange rocks our world. While small changes create ripples that generate excitement or dread\, large ones produce waves that plunge us into the throes of anxiety or anticipation. Is it any wonder that the symbol for hope is an anchor? Placing our hope in God through the minor and major changes in life not only brings a sense of stability\, but also a glimpse of possibility. When we view change through the lens of hope\, we find ways to regain our equilibrium and rest secure in God’s grace. \nKathy Hendricks is the National Catechetical Consultant for William H. Sadlier and a contributing writer for their materials\, including a weekly blog. Kathy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education\, a Master’s degree in Adult Christian Community Development\, and certification as a spiritual director. Kathy is the author of several books and has over 35 years experience in diocesan and parish catechetical and pastoral ministry. \nSponsored by William H. Sadlier \nMEETING LOCATION: HALL C
