McGrath Institute Day | Science and the Catholic Faith
January 10, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Teaching at the Interface Between Science & Religion
The Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference is excited to host a unique opportunity for Catholic educators to hear from members of Notre Dame University’s McGrath Institute for Church Life where they will address topics in science and religion.
Recent studies have identified conflict between science and faith as a key issue affecting young Catholics. This daylong program of the Vatican award-winning Science and Religion Initiative of the University of Notre Dame equips science teachers, lay ecclesial ministers, and catechists to fruitfully integrate faith and reason in school and parishes. Insightful presentations on the Church and science, the Galileo Affair, and the biblical creation accounts are followed by breakout sessions offered by veteran science and religion teachers on integrating theology and science in Catholic education.
Among those presenting will be:
- Dr. Christopher Baglow: Director, Science and Religion Initiative, McGrath Institute for Church Life, University of Notre Dame
- Dr. Stephen Barr: Professor of Physics and Astronomy, University of Delaware
- Dr. Cory Hayes: Senior Professor of Philosophy and Theology, St. Joseph Seminary College
Mass at 9:00 a.m. and lunch are included as part of McGrath Institute Day.
